This. In fact, I'll usually write "Spoke to John with insurance company- stated vehicle was not insured." or something to that effect on the citation. So far, my no proof tickets haven't been challenged. _________________ [Y]ou are outrageous. -Duluthman_drew

this has been good info. given a State database, a personally carried card, and the LE actualy contacting the carrier, it's hard to see where one would ever be erroneously charged for lack of insurance.
bringing a xerox copy of a ins. card looks like a sure way to encourage or allow a false one to get into the system. i know the cards that State Farm issues are pretty distinctive. |

As do I, and will usually add the date that the policy was cancelled. |

Coming in late here, but I will ALWAYS carry proof of insurance. A friend of mine was pulled over for rolling through a stop sign in the beginning part of his neighborhood and ended up having his vehicle towed for no POI. He had valid insurance, but the GCPD officer couldn't verify in the database. I was with him at the time, we walked back to his house after they towed the vehicle (that was a nice embarrasing event for him). I had thought you go to straight to jail for no insurance so I guess it's good he wasn't hauled off.
Point of story, carry POI and eliminate the possibility that someone else is able to control what happens to you because of either incompetence or a mistake somewhere along the line. |

No agency that I am privvy to arrests solely on no insurance.
As for your friend: not all insurance companies have operators on-call 24/7 so if that database says no, then your car goes to the tow if you don't have a card witcha.
Hell, I laminated mine and put it next to my "Magnum" in my wallet (that was for tha lay-deez) |

My boss got hit in a fender bender in Norcross (wasn't his fault but the other fellow ran into him). But when the LEO checked for insurance, my boss had accidentally forgot his card and was consequently hauled off to the Norcross PD in the back of a police car and his car was towed. He had never been arrested, so I guess you could say he had one of those Maalox moments.
So yes it can can happen; but this was in 1985 back when Kelly Everett was chief so procedure may have changed since then.
No slam against Chief Everett, he was good and helped me several times with legal matters. _________________ "Let the thunder roll and the lightning flash, I'm doin' alright for country trash..." - Johnny Cash |

Well I will not name the officer but she was very nice when my hubby had a very minor incident in Snelllville. He was in the 33 Ford and did not have his insurance card. She allowed me to bring it to them. In fact when I was almost there with the card she called me and I just read the information to her. This is the second time I have had a excellent experience with the Snellville PD. Thanks to all of you!!!! _________________ Help Keep our K-9 Cops Safe !!

| Not to mention that if you go out of state and are in the habit of not carrying your card, it will get you a nice lil ticket (or worse) if you get pulled over. |
