I never know what to do so I'm looking for some advice.

I was at the car wash this evening getting my van washed minding my own stinkin' business. This guy with a little kid about four years old comes out of the car wash and they wait on the dude's SUV. SUV comes out and the guy opens the back door and helps the kid with the three feet climb to get in. He tells the kid to "Sit down", closes the door, gets in and drives off with the kid standing on the floor board next to the door with his little face and hands plastered up against this guy's newly cleaned window. (A bit of poetic justice, I might add.) Why is that I always seem to be the one who spots the kids not in the required safety seats?? That's not my question I need advice on, but here it is coming.

Now those of you who know me on here are aware that I can be a bit of a safety fanatic. Ok, I'm a freak... a Safety Freak. But being an instructor for the Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute and a member of Safe Kids Gwinnett , I've seen some pretty gnarly pictures of what can happen when a kid goes splat on the pavement and the vehicle then rolls over the already splatted kid making them more splatted.

Here's the advice part... What, if anything, should I say to the offending adult? Should I carry pamphlets with me that explain the Georgia Child Safety Seat requirements? Or do I just sit there, praying my silent prayer for protection of the innocent victims who are put in this position by their STUPID-@SS care givers?

I've called 9-1-1 before and have had mixed enough responses to my reports that I feel hesitant to call again. I know that dispatchers are busy. I know that no one is injured, dying or bleeding... YET. But really, isn't this negligence on the part of the caregivers a life threatening emergency?

What should I do??? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Beyond calling the police to make them aware, learn the fine art of minding your own damn business. I mean that in the nicest way, of course. Smile

If you and I weren't already married to other people...

Preach it, brother-man!

I really do mean it in a nice way. As the old chestnut goes people need to learn when things are beyond their control. If she went up to those parents and tried to tell them how to keep their children safe, she probably would have gotten a busted snot box for her trouble.

Just call the police, let them know what's going on, and continue enjoying your day. Apathy can be virtue. If you worry too much you just get your blood pressure up. One of my heroes when I got into police work gave some good advice early on: "It only matters if you care."
