I have quite a few friends that have one too. Unlike most careers yours is one that can turn on you in a second. It didn't use to be that way. Not so much by the citizens but the "leaders" at the top. I watch Dekalb pretty close. The BOC think very little of their PD's service.

True, but you have to consider the quality of recruits they are hiring as well (Dekalb). I understand that they deal in volume and cannot just do a background check as thoroughly as...say...a smaller department. But the telltale "red flags" will hit you like a ton of bricks in the first initial interview. I feel that it all starts with good choices on personnel and the rest is politics, not the other way around.
