 | Pedestrian Fatality |
 (Saturday, November 21st, 2009 @approximately 6:35 PM) Members of the Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to an accident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. The accident occurred on Peachtree Parkway just north of Holcomb Bridge Road in Norcross which is located in an unincorporated area of Gwinnett County.
Preliminary investigation indicated that a female pedestrian attempted to cross 7 lanes of heavy traffic on Peachtree Parkway at a dark portion of the highway and was not crossing at a crosswalk. The pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by a northbound 1996 dark blue Mercedes Benz who had the right of way.
The pedestrian died on scene as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. It does not appear that alcohol or speed contributed to the collision. There are no criminal charges pending against the driver.
The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 53 year old Emilia Ortiz.
